In Pasadena, California, a dedicated group of volunteers is adding the final touches to a stunning float for the Rose Parade, an effort that has been more than two years in the making. This year’s Rose Parade, taking place on January 1, will not only celebrate its traditions but also mark a historic milestone: the commencement of America’s 250th birthday.
The float design prominently features three intricately crafted American bald eagles that will perch atop the structure, each engineered to move gracefully throughout the parade. One eagle, powered by hydraulics, is set to soar approximately 35 feet above the float, capturing the essence of American spirit and innovation.
Many of the volunteers are associated with the America 250 initiative and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Among them is Jill Fewell, Regent of the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter in Indianapolis, who traveled to California to lend her efforts in assembling the float. For Fewell, this project represents not just a parade entry but an embodiment of national pride and history.
Fewell expressed her excitement about both the float and Indiana University’s participation in the Rose Bowl during this significant anniversary. “This float is so representative of our country,” she emphasized, adding that seeing IU competing on such a prestigious stage feels symbolic for the state. She plans to walk alongside the float, hoping the moment resonates with fellow Hoosiers.
The enthusiasm among IU fans is palpable, as they are already filling the streets of Pasadena. Fewell anticipates an electrifying atmosphere in the stadium, stating, “The stadium is going to be filled with red, maybe a little white,” while also acknowledging the challenge of competing against Alabama, who also wears red.
This year’s festivities aim to honor America’s rich heritage while fostering community spirit and pride among those participating in the celebrations.
