Welcome to the Week 16 grades, where fan-favorite performances take the spotlight!
In a thrilling NFC East battle, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels delivered an outstanding performance for the Washington Commanders against the Philadelphia Eagles. Daniels threw for 258 yards and a remarkable five touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 81 yards. This impressive feat made him just the second quarterback in NFL history to combine over 250 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and at least 75 rushing yards in a single game.
His exceptional abilities shone particularly in the fourth quarter, where he amassed 139 passing yards and three touchdown passes, leading the Commanders to a 36-33 victory despite the team’s five turnovers. With this remarkable win, Washington makes history as the first team since 2010 to win while giving up 30 points and committing over five turnovers.
The grades for this electrifying matchup reflect both teams’ efforts.
Eagles: B+ – Given the absence of their star quarterback Jalen Hurts due to a concussion, the Eagles managed to keep this game competitive. Saquon Barkley stood out with a notable 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns, though he struggled in the second half. Unfortunately, the Eagles’ defense faltered in the fourth quarter, allowing 22 points—the most they’ve conceded in a single quarter this season.
Commanders: B+ – Daniels may very well be the frontrunner for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. His outstanding performance, particularly in the game’s critical moments, showcases his potential as a rising star. Despite the five turnovers, the Commanders proved they can win in challenging circumstances, making them a team to watch in the playoffs.
Other notable performances from Week 16 include:
Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Cleveland, making history with seven consecutive games of similar production.
Detroit’s Jared Goff excelled in a commanding victory over the Chicago Bears, throwing for 336 yards and three touchdowns, reaffirming the Lions’ ambitions for a NFC top seed.
In a solid showing, the Atlanta Falcons crushed the New York Giants 34-7, with standout performances from their defense and rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
The Miami Dolphins kept their playoff hopes alive by soundly defeating San Francisco, thanks largely to De’Von Achane’s stellar 190 total yards.
On a promising note, the Baltimore Ravens displayed their star power with Lamar Jackson leading the charge against Pittsburgh, showing strong potential for a deep playoff run.
Despite ups and downs, Week 16 illustrated the resilience and determination of numerous teams as they push towards the postseason.
As the season progresses, it’s heartening to see young talents like Jayden Daniels and teams like the Commanders making waves, suggesting an exciting playoff landscape ahead.
