Mira Sorvino recently shared exciting developments regarding the eagerly awaited sequel to “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Sorvino revealed plans to commence filming the sequel in late spring. The original writer, Robin Schiff, has crafted the script with significant input from both Sorvino and her co-star Lisa Kudrow. Not only will Sorvino, 57, and Kudrow, 62, reprise their iconic roles, but they are also taking on the roles of executive producers for the project, ensuring the characters remain true to their roots.
The upcoming sequel promises to revisit the endearing duo of Romy and Michele, exploring their lives in the present day alongside familiar faces from the original movie. Sorvino teased that much like the 1997 cult classic, the sequel will involve the characters confronting life’s challenges head-on, underscored by humor and emotional depth. At its core, “Romy and Michele” resonates with audiences due to its themes of authenticity, friendship, and self-acceptance, elements the sequel aims to maintain.
Fans can anticipate a signature dance number reminiscent of the original, adding a nostalgic touch that contributes to the story’s lasting appeal. While filming awaits, Sorvino is set to make her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Additionally, she will appear in an upcoming episode of “Name That Tune,” competing against friend Aisha Tyler for the charity End Human Trafficking.
Reflecting on her experience with the game show, Sorvino expressed delight and gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of a project she cherished while growing up, particularly since her participation supports a meaningful cause. Viewers can catch her episode airing on Monday, September 29, on Fox.
