Rohit Sharma Shatters ODI Sixes Milestone in 270 Innings

Rohit Sharma continued to demonstrate his extraordinary talent as a run-scorer during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on November 30, 2025. Coming into the match with 349 sixes to his name, Sharma was just two hits away from tying the record for the most sixes in ODI history, currently held by former Pakistan player Shahid Afridi with 351 sixes in 398 matches.

In a display of power hitting, Rohit launched two consecutive sixes over deep midwicket off South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen during the 15th over, thus equaling Afridi’s record. He then knocked another six off Marco Hansen over deep square leg, ultimately setting the world record for most ODI sixes hit in the fewest innings. Rohit’s achievement came in just 270 innings, showcasing his efficiency and skill.

With this remarkable performance, Rohit surpassed Afridi, reaching a total of 352 sixes in his 277th ODI match. Comparatively, Afridi took 398 matches to achieve his tally, while another legend of the game, Chris Gayle, resides in third place with 331 sixes in 301 matches.

During the match, Rohit Sharma scored 57 runs, marking his 60th half-century in one-day internationals. As a former captain of the Indian cricket team, he led his side to a Champions Trophy victory earlier this year and now continues to shine in ODI cricket since his debut in 2007.

Rohit’s accomplishment not only highlights his batting prowess but also contributes positively to the ongoing transformation of ODI cricket, where aggressive batting has become a key focus. This milestone may inspire future generations of cricket players to aim high and embrace the art of six-hitting, pushing the boundaries of what is achievable in the sport.
