Rogue Ales Faces Closure as Oregon Brewery Battles Financial Troubles

Rogue Ales, a well-known brewery based in Newport, Oregon, is reportedly ceasing operations. On November 14, 2025, employees arrived at the Portland Public House to be informed of the closure, prompting concerns about the future of the brand. Efforts made by The New School to confirm these reports have yet to receive a response from the brewery.

According to a report by the Lincoln City Chronicle, Rogue Ales currently owes $545,000 to the Port of Newport, which relates to its main production and packaging facility as well as operations at its distillery in Newport. Additionally, there is an outstanding tax obligation of $30,000 to Lincoln County. In response to these financial issues, the Port of Newport has reportedly approved a plan to lease Rogue’s distillery building to West Coast Seafood.

Online listings indicate that the Portland location and the flagship Rogue Bayfront brewpub in Newport are temporarily closed, although other sites, like the Rogue Pier 39 location in Astoria and the Rogue Salem Public House, still appear to be operational as of this afternoon. Attempts to contact all six Rogue Ales locations yielded no answers, with calls going unanswered or resulting in full voicemail boxes.

The situation surrounding Rogue Ales raises questions about the challenges faced by breweries in an increasingly competitive market. Despite the difficulties, the future remains uncertain, and there may still be hope for revival or restructuring as the industry continues to adapt and evolve.
