Manchester City midfielder Rodri sustained an injury during the first half of the crucial Premier League match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The 28-year-old went down in pain while attempting a corner for City and had to be substituted with Mateo Kovacic taking his place.
“Rodri is strong, but he left the pitch, so for Rodri to do that, he must have felt something,” said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after the game.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Manchester City equalizing late in the game thanks to a goal from John Stones. The injury incident occurred shortly after the match began when Rodri and Arsenal striker Kai Havertz collided.
Teammate Bernardo Silva provided an update on Rodri’s condition after the match, stating, “I don’t know, the truth is I don’t know [how Rodri is]. He’s walking, I don’t know if there’s anything else, but so far we don’t know. I think we’ll know more tomorrow. I don’t think [Rodri] left [on crutches], not now. But he left in a bad way, he wasn’t very well, he asked to be substituted. Let’s see what the doctors say.”
Rodri had previously missed the start of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during the 2024 European Championship. Following a successful summer with Spain, he had emerged as a contender for the Ballon d’Or.
