Rockies Stumble Again: Can They Turn the Tide?

The Colorado Rockies aimed to continue their offensive progress from a previous game but were unable to do so, suffering a 5-0 defeat against the Milwaukee Brewers. This loss marked the ninth shutout of the season for the Rockies, who now hold an unfortunate record of 18-65, while the Brewers improved to 47-36.

Antonio Senzatela had shown promise in his last two starts but faced difficulties on this occasion. The Brewers quickly took the lead in the first inning with key hits from Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich, followed by a walk to William Contreras that loaded the bases. Brice Turang’s infield single brought in the first run, and a sacrifice fly from Rhys Hoskins added another.

The Brewers extended their lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer from Joey Ortiz, followed by consecutive doubles in the fifth, bringing the score to 5-0. Senzatela managed to strike out Hoskins for the 500th strikeout of his career, becoming the 11th player in Rockies history to reach this achievement, but overall struggled with his performance. He left the game after just 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits, and recording three walks against two strikeouts.

The Rockies’ offense was overwhelmed by Brewers starter Quinn Priester, who pitched a career-high seven innings, only allowing one hit—a single by Michael Toglia in the fifth inning. Priester showcased his dominance with 11 strikeouts, marking the first time this season that a Brewers pitcher achieved this feat.

Despite some efforts, including a notable play from Jordan Beck that didn’t yield results, the Rockies struggled to capitalize on their limited opportunities, finishing with 11 strikeouts and going 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Angel Chivilli and Tyler Kinley provided some relief from the bullpen, combining for 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Rockies will look to regroup as they finish their road trip in Milwaukee on Sunday. Germán Márquez is scheduled to start against Chad Patrick of the Brewers, and the team hopes for a turnaround performance.

While this setback reflects the ongoing challenges faced by the Rockies, the acknowledgment of Senzatela’s career milestone offers a glimmer of hope in an otherwise difficult season.
