Rockies Make MLB History with Record-Breaking Struggles

The Colorado Rockies experienced another setback as they lost 2-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, solidifying their place in history with an alarmingly poor start to the 2025 MLB season. This defeat dropped the Rockies’ record to an astonishing 8-42, marking the worst record for any team after 50 games in the modern era of Major League Baseball. This performance surpasses the previous low of 41 losses set by the 1904 Washington Senators, now known as the Minnesota Twins.

The loss completed a series sweep for the Phillies, who are currently leading the National League, and this defeat extended the Rockies’ losing streak to five consecutive games. Despite the team’s overall struggles, starting pitcher Germán Márquez had a commendable performance, giving up just one earned run on four hits over seven innings. However, the Rockies have faced significant challenges this season, as their pitching staff owns the highest earned run average in the league at 5.92, while their batting lineup struggles with the third-lowest OPS in baseball at .648.

In a further blow to the Rockies, the team announced that their pitching leader in wins, Chase Dollander, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm tightness. This first-round draft pick, only 23 years old, was ranked as the second-highest prospect in the Rockies organization.

On a more hopeful note, despite the unfortunate start, there remains potential for growth within the team as they continue to develop young talent like Dollander. With patience and perseverance, the Rockies can work towards turning their season around.
