Recently, the rock music scene has been buzzing with significant announcements. Oasis made headlines by revealing their much-anticipated reunion, while Linkin Park and Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley teased separate news drops set for Wednesday morning (August 28). This led fans to speculate whether Whibley was stepping in as the new vocalist for Linkin Park or possibly touring with Oasis. However, Whibley took to social media to clarify the rumors and share his own exciting news.
He humorously explained, “I would like to reiterate one more time that I am not joining any other bands. I do find it interesting though, the amount of text messages I got asking me if I was joining Oasis of all bands,” before detailing his announcement. Whibley is set to release a memoir titled Walking Disaster, which will be available on October 8. He will also be signing book sleeves during his tour for fans who have already pre-ordered the book.
Describing what to expect, he said, “Some things are good, some things are bad, some things are so personal I can’t believe I even spoke about them, but I figured if you’re writing a book you gotta be honest.”
Sum 41 is gearing up for their farewell tour, which kicks off on September 4, with plans for their final performance on January 30, 2025, in Toronto. Meanwhile, discussions around Linkin Park’s potential new lead singer have intensified, sparked by Orgy’s Jay Gordon’s mention of the band planning to return with a female vocalist. Although Evanescence’s Amy Lee was initially rumored to be the successor to the late Chester Bennington, she quickly dispelled those speculations. Linkin Park is scheduled to make their significant announcement at 11:15am PST.
