Roblox has recently announced the introduction of its age verification system in three countries, including Australia, in conjunction with the federal government’s new social media restrictions for users under the age of 16. This initiative aims to enhance user safety by mandating that players verify their ages before they can privately message one another.
Alongside the age verification requirement, Roblox plans to implement age-specific chat features. These features will allow users to communicate only with those of a similar age group, further prioritizing the protection of younger players. The enforcement of these age checks is set to commence in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands during the first week of December, with a broader rollout planned for early January.
Interestingly, while Australia’s new ban on social media access for under-16s will take effect on December 10, Roblox has not been included in the government’s targeted list of platforms. This development comes as Roblox faces increased scrutiny and legal challenges concerning child safety, as various states and countries implement regulations aimed at protecting minors in online environments.
Roblox’s proactive measures highlight its ongoing commitment to creating a safer gaming space and addressing the growing concerns related to child safety in digital realms. By implementing these features, Roblox not only aims to provide a more secure experience for its users but also fosters a community where players of all ages can engage safely with one another.
