Robbie Williams’ Wild Journey: A Biopic with a Twist!

Fans of Robbie Williams are eagerly anticipating a unique biopic that chronicles the singer’s ascent to fame, featuring a CGI monkey as a central character. Titled Better Man, the film is set to premiere on Boxing Day in the UK and is directed by Michael Gracey, who is known for his work on The Greatest Showman, a film that achieved significant box office success.

The narrative follows Williams, portrayed by actor Jonno Davies through motion capture, as he navigates his tumultuous childhood, experiences success with the boy band Take That, and eventually becomes a solo superstar. Williams boasts an impressive record, with 11 out of 12 of his studio albums reaching the top of the UK charts, along with three greatest hits compilations. He is also recognized for holding the record for the most Brit awards, totaling 13. The film reportedly does not shy away from exploring his darker moments, including struggles with addiction and controversial behavior.

Better Man has already been showcased at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, receiving favorable reviews. Benjamin Lee from the Guardian commended the film, noting its unexpected charm despite initial skepticism about its premise. He highlighted the film’s engaging style and the authentic portrayal of Williams, which adds depth to the story.

The trailer features Williams providing a voiceover and showcases Gracey’s talent for choreographed musical sequences, including a vibrant scene illuminated by Christmas lights in London’s Regent Street. The film also takes a lighthearted approach to adult themes.

Additional reviews are similarly positive, with Variety praising the film’s unique concept, which sets it apart from typical pop-star biopics. They humorously noted its audacious moments, including a depiction of unconventional antics involving a chimp and encounters with iconic figures like manager Nigel Martin Smith, played by Damon Herriman.
