The first trailer for the upcoming Robbie Williams film, titled “Better Man,” has been released, featuring a unique approach to storytelling. The film opens with a personal message from the pop icon himself, declaring, “This is my story. But I’m not gonna tell it in an ordinary way because I don’t see myself how others see me.”

True to his word, Williams takes on a surprising role in the film—voiced and motion-captured by actor Jonno Davies, he appears as a monkey. The trailer showcases this whimsical portrayal, revealing Williams entertaining a lively festival audience while playfully remarking, “To be honest, I’ve always been a little less evolved. So let’s take it from the top, shall we.”

The trailer highlights key moments from Williams’ life, including his childhood, the formation of British pop group Take That, and the challenges he has faced throughout his illustrious career. In a particularly striking moment, he passionately declares, “I’m going to be fucking famous!” At one point, he introspectively questions, “Do I look like a pop star?” to which his mother affectionately reassures him that she “wouldn’t change a hair” on his head. This dialogue takes on a humorous twist given his monkey portrayal.

As the trailer unfolds, Williams expresses a desire for independence, stating, “I want to prove I can make it on my own.”

“Better Man” is set to be released in select theaters on Christmas and will expand to nationwide screenings on January 17, 2025.

This film promises to blend humor and authenticity, bringing a fresh perspective to Williams’ storied career while also making a statement about self-identity. The choice to use a monkey as a representation of the artist’s journey could resonate deeply with audiences, showcasing the concept of not fitting traditional molds. As fans eagerly await its release, “Better Man” could serve not just as a fascinating documentary but as an inspiring tale of resilience and individuality in the music industry.
