Fans of Robbie Williams are in for a treat with the newly released trailer for the musical biopic “Better Man.” Directed by Michael Gracey, known for “The Greatest Showman,” the film features a CGI monkey acting as a stand-in for the renowned British pop star.
The trailer opens with Williams humorously addressing the unusual casting choice: “I know what you’re thinking. What’s with the monkey? I’m Robbie Williams. I’m one of the biggest pop stars in the world. But I’ve always seen myself a little less evolved.” In a unique twist, every scene featuring Williams has him replaced by a monkey reminiscent of characters from “Planet of the Apes.”
It takes viewers through Williams’ early years, including his childhood and soccer games, depicted with the monkey dressed in clothes. The footage also showcases his electrifying performances on stage, this time featuring the animated ape with exaggerated features.
The official description of “Better Man” reads: “Based on the true story of Robbie Williams’ remarkable journey, the film delivers an inspiring narrative about his rise to fame, fall from grace, and incredible comeback. Told from Williams’ perspective, it captures his distinctive humor and resilient spirit.” The story spans his childhood, his time as the youngest member of the popular boyband Take That, and his remarkable career as a successful solo artist, while addressing the challenges of immense fame.
The cast includes Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman, Kate Mulvaney, Frazer Hadfield, Tom Budge, and Anthony Hayes, with Jonno Davies portraying the monkey version of Williams.
