RJ Harvey Emerges as Broncos’ Offensive Joker

Following the completion of the 2024 NFL season, there has been significant discussion regarding the Denver Broncos’ offensive playmakers. While Courtland Sutton managed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards and registered eight touchdowns, other options on the team have struggled to make a substantial impact. Head coach Sean Payton emphasized the need for a “joker” player to enhance the offense during the offseason, with tight end Evan Engram initially viewed as a potential fit for this role.

However, Engram has faced challenges this season, either remaining inactive due to injuries or competing while clearly hampered by them. Nonetheless, he demonstrated some promise during Monday night’s game, garnering seven targets but ultimately finishing with just four receptions for 29 yards.

Considering Engram’s difficulties, it appears the Broncos may need to reconsider their plans regarding him as their offensive joker. Fortunately, there is emerging talent already within their ranks that could fill this role effectively.

RJ Harvey is rapidly positioning himself as the true joker in Sean Payton’s offensive scheme. In Monday’s matchup, he showcased his diverse skill set by accumulating 98 scrimmage yards, including 58 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards, along with his first career touchdown. Harvey’s versatility allowed him to excel as both a running back and a receiver, navigating through various aspects of the game with ease.

With Denver’s offense currently in search of playmaking options, Harvey’s emergence comes at an opportune time. While Sutton and JK Dobbins have been reliable performers, the remaining players have largely failed to establish consistent contributions. Harvey’s addition brings an unexpected dynamic to the Broncos’ overall game plan.

Historically, Payton has maximized the talents of running backs, incorporating them into various facets of the offense. Harvey’s unique blend of speed, power, and receiving capability suggests that he possesses the traits necessary to thrive in the NFL. If he can build on his impressive performance in Week 5 with another strong showing, the Broncos may well have identified their offensive joker for years to come.
