Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has announced its plans to establish a new East Coast headquarters in Atlanta, marking a significant investment aimed at advancing EV technology in Georgia. The new facility will occupy the top floor and lobby of Portman Holdings’ Junction Krog District on Auburn Avenue, conveniently located near the eastside trail of the Atlanta Beltline. The headquarters is set to open by late 2025, with further expansion anticipated in 2026.

Rivian’s initiative is expected to create approximately 100 jobs by the end of 2025, expanding to up to 500 jobs once the facility is fully operational. RJ Scaringe, Rivian’s Founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the move, highlighting Atlanta’s blend of talent, creativity, and forward-thinking attitude as pivotal factors in their decision.

Governor Brian Kemp supported Rivian’s establishment in Atlanta, noting that the move reinforces Georgia’s growing reputation as a prime location for corporate headquarters. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the city’s leadership in electric vehicle innovation and its integral role in shaping the future economy.

It’s worth noting that Rivian had previously announced plans for a massive $5 billion factory in Georgia but halted construction before it could begin. Despite this pause, the company received a substantial $6.6 billion federal loan to support the facility, which underscores the state leaders’ commitment to fostering economic growth through major projects.

This new headquarters not only symbolizes Rivian’s presence in Georgia but also reflects the state’s strategic position in the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable energy. The developments in Atlanta may serve to enhance the local economy and pave the way for a greener future.

As electric vehicles gain traction worldwide, Rivian’s commitment to Atlanta is a promising sign for innovation and job creation in the region. The unfolding story of Rivian in Georgia will be one to watch, as it continues to enhance the state’s position in the electric vehicle market.
