Rising Stars: Cardoso and Boston Light Up the WNBA

Former Gamecock teammates Kamilla Cardoso and Aliyah Boston made headlines on Tuesday night by achieving impressive career-highs in their respective WNBA games. Cardoso, playing for the Chicago Sky, scored 27 points during an exhilarating 87-86 victory over Los Angeles. Her performance included shooting 10-of-15 from the field, 6-of-8 from the free-throw line, alongside seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Notably, she also sank her first WNBA three-pointer in the third quarter. This shooting success adds to her undefeated streak (2-0) in both college and professional play when she nails a three-pointer.

Cardoso, who had previously set a career-high of 23 points on May 28, has been finding her rhythm recently despite the Sky’s struggle for identity this season. Over her last five games, she has averaged 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds while scoring in double figures in four of those games. Unfortunately, she will be sidelined for the next two weeks as she participates in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup with the Brazilian national team, where she was named Most Outstanding Player in 2023 for leading her team to a gold medal. Her teammates nicknamed her “FIBA Kamilla” in recognition of her impressive play.

In a remarkable showing of talent on the same night, Aliyah Boston outperformed Cardoso, scoring 31 points for the Indiana Fever in their game against the Storm. Boston’s stellar performance included shooting 13-of-18 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe, plus she contributed eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Prior to this game, her career-high was set at 30 points last season against Atlanta. Boston has been on an outstanding scoring run, averaging 24.7 points and 10.0 rebounds over her last three games, and leads the WNBA in field goal percentage at an impressive 60.3%.

Both players showcased their abilities as the top two scorers in the league on Tuesday night. Boston’s next contest is scheduled for Thursday against Los Angeles, while Cardoso will first compete in the AmeriCup in Chile on Saturday.

This night of phenomenal achievements highlights the rise of these young athletes, continuing to set career milestones while representing their collegiate legacy. As they both prepare for their upcoming games, fans and supporters are eager to see how they will further develop their promising careers.
