As with previous years, three promising players from Barça Academy Pro Arizona are currently training with the Barça youth teams to evaluate their growth in skills and mindset. Chosen by the US-based coaches, Graham Ford, Makai Wells, and Jorge Padilla have all participated in last year’s increasingly competitive MLS playoffs.
Highlighting their potential, Graham Ford has joined the U16A team after impressing during a training camp last year. Known for his left-footed precision, Ford excels as a central midfielder, demonstrating strong possession skills, ball recovery abilities, and an insightful understanding of the game.
Makai Wells is also training with the U16A squad, marking his first experience in Barcelona. As a right winger, his strong passing game and ability to excel in one-on-one situations have made him a noteworthy addition since he joined Barça Academy Pro Arizona last year.
Jorge Padilla is stepping up to the U19B team for the first time, following four years at the Arizona center. His standout performance in the MLS U16 playoffs opened the door for this opportunity in Europe, where he can develop alongside his peers. Padilla plays as a right-sided midfielder, known for his tackling strength and direct attacking approach. His dedication and hard work were key factors in providing him with this chance in Barcelona.
The Barça Residency Academy USA, inaugurated in 2017, stands as the lone program by FC Barcelona in North America. Located in Casa Grande, it features eight soccer fields and a study center affiliated with Arizona State University, embodying the international support of Barça’s renowned training methodology. Notably, it is the only Barça Academy in North America with a team competing in MLS Next, the premier youth league in the United States.
In summary, the continued development of these young players highlights the growing synergy between U.S. soccer and global training methodologies, fostering talent capable of competing on a world stage. Such programs not only enhance individual player skills but also contribute to the future of soccer in North America, providing hope for the next generation of athletes.
