St. Louis CITY SC has officially signed academy forward Mykhi Joyner as a Homegrown Player. Joyner is under an MLS NEXT Pro contract until the end of the 2024 season, after which he will sign as an MLS Homegrown Player through 2028, with a club option for 2029. Joyner joins other Homegrown signings like Caden Glover, Miguel Perez, and Tyson Pearce.
CITY SC brought Joyner on a short-term loan from their MLS NEXT Pro team, St Louis CITY2. He will be available for the upcoming MLS match against Seattle Sounders FC at 9:30 p.m. CT at Lumen Field on Wednesday.
“Bringing an academy product into the first team is always a proud moment for our club,” said Lutz Pfannenstiel, St. Louis CITY SC Sporting Director. “Our goal has always been to nurture and develop homegrown talent, and seeing Mykhi make the jump to the senior squad is a testament to that commitment and the hard work that he has put in since joining the organization back in 2022.”
Currently enjoying a breakout season at the MLS NEXT Pro level, Joyner has been instrumental in leading CITY2 to the top of the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings with an 11-3-2 record. He leads CITY2 with nine goals and has also contributed one assist in 14 appearances.
Joyner scored his first professional goal for CITY2 in his debut against Tacoma Defiance during the team’s home opener last season. At just 17 years old, Joyner has accumulated 27 appearances, scoring 10 goals and recording one assist for CITY2.
