Rising Star: Jaela Auguste Shines Bright in Florida Volleyball Season

Jaela Auguste has concluded an outstanding freshman volleyball season at the University of Florida by earning the SEC Freshman of the Year award, along with selections for the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team.

This remarkable achievement places Auguste among the nation’s elite, as she finished 14th in hitting percentage and seventh in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Her win marks a significant milestone for the Gators, being the first to secure this prestigious award since Alexis Stucky, a redshirt sophomore setter, did so in the 2022 season.

Hailing from Spring, Texas, Auguste made a significant impact by starting in 26 of the 28 matches during the season. She played a crucial role for the Gators, leading the team in blocks during 15 games.

Her exceptional talent was highlighted on Nov. 11 when she was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for her impressive performances in victories against Auburn and Alabama. In those matches, she scored seven kills against Auburn and followed up with 11 kills against Alabama. Throughout the season, Auguste recorded double-digit kills in five matches, achieving a personal best of 12 kills against Ohio State on September 8. Additionally, she matched her career high by recording seven blocks in a game against Mississippi State.

In her debut with the Gators against Colorado State on August 30, Auguste made an immediate impact, contributing four kills and five blocks.

Other Gators also received SEC honors, including sophomore outside hitter Kennedy Martin, who earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team, fifth-year libero Elli McKissock, who was named to the All-SEC Second Team, and freshman Taylor Parks, who was recognized on the SEC All-Freshman Team.

This season has truly been remarkable for Jaela Auguste and her teammates, showcasing their skill and dedication, and setting a hopeful tone for the future of Florida volleyball. The recognition received by these athletes highlights the growing strength of their program and the bright potential ahead as they continue to develop their talents.
