Rising Star: Elisabetta Cocciaretto’s Inspiring Tennis Journey

Elisabetta Cocciaretto, a rising tennis star from Italy, was born in Ancona in January 2001 and has recently made headlines for her impressive achievements on the court. Having started playing tennis at the tender age of five, she did not come from a sporting background, but her father’s passion for the game spurred her on. As she pursued her tennis career, she moved to Tirrenia to train at a facility run by the Italian Tennis Federation, which provided her the necessary resources to excel in the sport.

Cocciaretto faced significant challenges, including a back injury that sidelined her for approximately a year and a half. However, she made a triumphant return to tennis and represented Italy at just 17 years old. In a recent interview, she mentioned that while she knows fellow Italian tennis players Francesca Schiavone and Flavia Pennetta only casually, Sara Errani has been a great source of support and inspiration for her.

In 2023, Cocciaretto reached the pinnacle of her career by becoming the top-ranked female tennis player in Italy and even achieved a world ranking of 29 at one point. Remarkably, she emphasizes the importance of ambition and continuous improvement, a value she attributes to her mother’s encouragement of a solid educational background alongside sports. Currently, she is studying law at the University of Camerino while balancing her tennis commitments.

Cocciaretto has formed close relationships with several fellow Italian players, such as Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini, and humorously recounted light-hearted moments shared during their travels. With a dedicated coach, Fausto Scolari, by her side since her injury recovery, she feels well-supported on her journey.

As of now, Cocciaretto is ranked 82nd in the world and recently secured her first WTA title in Lausanne in 2023. She is set to face the renowned Iga Swiatek for the first time at the Foro Italico in Rome on May 8, an exciting matchup that many tennis fans are eagerly awaiting.

Overall, Cocciaretto’s journey reflects resilience and dedication, and her pursuit of both sports and academia is a testament to young athletes striving for excellence in multiple arenas. With hard work and the right support, she embodies a bright future in tennis and beyond.
