Following Jerry Tuwai’s decision to step back from his playing duties and ambassadorial roles due to a personal loss, 21-year-old Samisoni Sadole has been named in the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s squad for the upcoming 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament.

Sadole is an emerging talent in Fijian rugby sevens, primarily playing as a rover for the Devo Babas team. His inclusion in the squad offers a new opportunity as he steps in for the experienced Tuwai, marking a significant moment in his young career. A product of the Ba Kaji Rugby development program, Sadole has demonstrated his skills in various local competitions, including the Fiji Bitter Wairiki Sevens and the Nawaka 7s. He has also played for notable teams such as Devo Babas, JB Sorokoba, and the Ba Rugby Union representative squads.

In addition to his sevens experience, Sadole has ventured into the fifteen-a-side format, having been listed as a reserve for the Ba under-20 team in the Skipper Cup competition. His diverse experience and strong performance in local tournaments underline his readiness for this prestigious event.

Tournament organizers have voiced their full support for Jerry Tuwai’s decision, emphasizing the importance of wellbeing during difficult times. They described Tuwai as not just an ambassador for the tournament but also as family, urging respect for his privacy and extending condolences. Tuwai himself has expressed gratitude for the support received, wishing everyone involved the best, while he cheers on from a distance.

Sadole’s selection is a pivotal moment in his rugby journey, as he prepares to represent the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team and embrace the challenges that lie ahead at the tournament. This opportunity not only enhances his career prospects but also uplifts the team spirit as they venture into a highly anticipated event.
