In a spirited effort to inspire the youth of Taveuni, the Rise Taveuni Campaign was launched, urging young individuals to embrace opportunities and overcome challenges to fulfill their potential. Held at a gathering of over 400 students, the event saw Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua share his personal journey from modest beginnings to a respected government leader, illustrating that with ambition, big dreams can be achieved.
Naivalurua emphasized how current decisions shape future outcomes and encouraged the youth to follow the footsteps of distinguished Taveuni natives who have excelled in sports, business, and public service—such as Fijiana rugby captain and naval officer Alfreda Fisher, legal practitioner Antonio Raivalita Yavalanavanua, and the young farmer-turned-entrepreneur Joji Masivesi.
Organized by the Taveuni Empowerment of Women Support Group with sponsorship from Women’s Fund Fiji, the campaign aims to instill resilience and determination in the next generation. This initiative reflects a broader movement within Fiji where various programs are being established to support and empower youth, providing them with skills and opportunities for a brighter future. Similar events and highlighted stories of individuals overcoming adversities demonstrate Fiji’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a resilient society.
In sync with other initiatives across the country, the Rise Taveuni Campaign reinforces the idea that with the right support and opportunities, youths can achieve significant milestones, contributing positively to their communities. The campaign not only motivates but also reassures young people that their dreams, irrespective of their backgrounds, are within reach if pursued with passion and perseverance.
