Riley Keough, the daughter of singer Lisa Marie Presley, is revealing details of her mother’s health struggles in a new memoir titled “From Here to the Great Unknown.” Keough shares that Presley had requested her assistance with the book shortly before her passing in January 2023.
The memoir offers insights into Presley’s life, including her battles with opioid addiction, body image issues, and heart health challenges, as narrated by both mother and daughter.
Keough discusses how Presley’s opioid addiction began after the birth of her twin daughters in 2008. She had been prescribed pain medication following her C-section but soon started using the opioids to help with sleep. Keough reflects on how her mother’s drug use intensified after leaving the Church of Scientology, describing it as a response to the emotional void that ensued.
As her addiction grew, Presley reportedly consumed up to 80 pills a day. Following a court mandate, she entered rehab, where doctors prescribed medications intended to help with her withdrawals; however, Keough notes that these often exacerbated the situation instead. Presley eventually faced severe health incidents, including a seizure, which prompted her to declare her desire for change.
Before her death, Presley experienced cardiac arrest. Keough recounts a family visit on January 12, 2023, when her father had to rush Presley to the hospital due to severe stomach pain. Despite resuscitation efforts, Presley later succumbed after experiencing another cardiac arrest.
Presley’s health struggles were compounded by a family history of heart disease. Both her father, Elvis Presley, and her own ailments contributed to her vulnerabilities. The memoir highlights previous heart failures, with Presley recalling a time in the hospital when her heartbeat was critically low.
In 2022, Presley had her uterus removed due to health concerns, an emotional event for her, as noted by Keough. The memoir also touches upon the complications stemming from a bariatric weight-loss surgery that Presley underwent, revealing that her cause of death was a small bowel obstruction linked to this procedure.
Leading up to her death, Presley experienced various health warning signs, including abdominal pain, nausea, and bouts of fever. Keough reflects on a troubling energy surrounding her mother’s health towards the end of 2022, noting her mother’s increasing health complaints and the concern shared among family members.
