Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are once again embarking on an adventurous motorcycle journey, this time featured in their latest docuseries, “Long Way Home,” which premieres on May 9 on Apple TV+. This marks a continuation of their decades-long friendship and travels that began with “Long Way Round,” where they covered an impressive 19,000 miles across 12 countries, immersing themselves in rich cultures from London to New York.
Their subsequent trips, including “Long Way Down” in 2007, took them from Scotland to Cape Town, journeying over 15,000 miles through 18 countries, and “Long Way Up,” where they traveled 13,000 miles from Argentina to Los Angeles, spotlighting the stunning scenery of South and Central America.
On this latest adventure, McGregor and Boorman logged 7,600 miles across 17 countries over nine weeks, riding vintage 50-year-old motorcycles. Highlights of the trip included McGregor’s home in Scotland and Boorman’s roots in England. During their travels, Svalbard in the Arctic Circle left a significant impression on McGregor due to its breathtaking remoteness and natural beauty, including encounters with polar bears and stunning glaciers.
Despite facing challenges like adverse weather and a crash—belonging solely to McGregor—both riders reflect on how their friendship has deepened over the years through shared experiences on the road. McGregor emphasized the unique bond they have formed through their extensive travels, which have amounted to over a year of riding together.
As they look to the future, the duo is excited about the next destinations but remains tight-lipped about their plans. This ongoing journey not only showcases the thrill of exploration but also highlights the enduring nature of friendship formed through adventure—a sentiment that resonates strongly amid the challenges of modern life.
