The Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce has launched an initiative to explore the possibility of establishing a casino in Richmond, Indiana. Titled “Richmond is on a Roll,” the campaign aims to inform residents and local businesses about the potential benefits and consequences of applying for a casino license.

This endeavor follows a study commissioned by the Indiana Gaming Commission, which highlighted potential revenue streams tied to a casino in the area. Melissa Vance, the president and CEO of the Chamber, emphasized the need for careful consideration of opportunities that could impact the local economy and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The Chamber is committed to providing factual information regarding casino prospects instead of advocating for a specific outcome. “This effort is about making sure the community has accurate information,” Vance stated. The goal is to ensure that if discussions progress at the state level, the public is well-informed about the implications and can participate in the decision-making process.

Support for the campaign comes from Richmond Mayor Ron Oler, who expressed optimism about the potential for development in the area. He noted that this opportunity reflects the community’s ongoing investments in infrastructure and urban revitalization. “This is an exciting opportunity for Richmond and Wayne County to be thoughtfully considered at the state level,” Oler said.

For the casino proposal to advance, the Indiana General Assembly must pass legislation that would allow the state’s gaming commission to accept applications for licenses in Wayne County. The Chamber is actively engaging with local legislators and other community leaders during the current legislative session to advocate for this initiative.

More information about the campaign can be found on the Chamber’s website and their Facebook page, shedding light on the ongoing efforts to engage the community in this significant potential development for Richmond.
