Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson sustained a hip injury during his team’s 27-24 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. This injury occurred in the first half after Richardson took a blow to his right hip following a 14-yard run. He immediately showed discomfort and remained on the ground for a short time before getting up and heading to the sideline on his own.
After a brief period of recovery, Richardson returned to the game, missing just two plays during which veteran Joe Flacco replaced him. However, on his first play back, he was hit hard by Steelers linebacker Minkah Fitzpatrick after a 1-yard carry, leading him to exit the game once again. He left for the locker room with medical staff and later reappeared at the start of the second quarter, looking prepared to play. Despite this, he was not put back into the game and was ruled out shortly afterward.
Flacco finished the match with 16 completions on 26 attempts for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Richardson’s injury history has been a significant concern in his career; the first-round draft pick had previously suffered a concussion and a season-ending shoulder injury last year. However, he had successfully played without incident in the first three games of the 2024 season prior to this latest injury.
