Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has addressed concerns over perceived delays in the investigation of the Richard Mock case, asserting that such claims are unfounded. He clarified that the Police Force has completed its investigation and submitted the relevant file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Amid ongoing public scrutiny, Tudravu emphasized that the allegations of police involvement in delays are misplaced. He maintained that the police have fulfilled their responsibilities and are now awaiting the DPP’s decision on whether any charges will be filed.

“It’s already with the DPP. People are asking me, why can’t you go to the DPP? I’m not going to the DPP. I discussed with the DPP. DPP is an independent body. People need to know that. People are telling me, why wait? Why can’t you go there? They are an independent body,” Tudravu stated.

He reiterated that police cannot interfere with the processes of the DPP and will follow its guidance moving forward. The case stems from the discovery of Mock’s body in a vacant lot in Nasau, Nadi, last year. The 35-year-old was last in contact with officers from the Namaka Police Station, who have since been questioned through video-recorded interviews as part of the investigation.

As this case progresses into the hands of the DPP, both the police and the community are encouraged to remain patient as the legal procedures unfold. This is an important reminder of the necessary checks and balances within the justice system, ensuring that due process is respected and upheld.
