Rich Eisen is set to transition “The Rich Eisen Show” from The Roku Channel to ESPN, marking his return to the network nearly 20 years after departing in 2003. This move, reported by The Athletic, will see the show broadcast from noon to 3 p.m. ET as part of ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service, expected to launch this fall.

Eisen’s program will be licensed by ESPN, allowing him to retain ownership and editorial control—a similar arrangement to that of Pat McAfee with “The Pat McAfee Show.” ESPN is reportedly positioning Eisen’s show as a key feature for the network, complementing McAfee’s daily program which airs at the same time.

In addition to streaming on ESPN+, the content will also be available on Disney+. There is a possibility of Eisen’s show being featured on ESPN Radio, although it will not air on ESPN’s traditional linear networks, including ESPN2 and ESPNews. Specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

In addition to his new role, Eisen will continue to host NFL Network’s “GameDay” and contribute to NFL Draft coverage. His career has included time at ESPN where he was part of the NFL Draft coverage, before moving to NFL Network and other platforms.

Interestingly, ESPN had reportedly pursued Colin Cowherd for this new direct-to-consumer initiative, but he chose to remain with Fox Sports and his podcast network, The Volume.

The announcement of Eisen’s return highlights ESPN’s strategy to enhance its digital offerings while appealing to a diverse audience. The ongoing evolution of sports broadcasting continues to offer exciting opportunities for hosts like Eisen, reflecting changing viewer preferences in the digital landscape.
