The Rice University Swimming and Diving team is set to start its 2025–26 season at the Seminole Fall Classic this weekend, hosted at the Morcom Aquatic Center in Tallahassee, Florida. The two-day event, occurring on Friday and Saturday, will see Rice go up against formidable opponents such as West Virginia and host team Florida State.
Rice enters the season with a boost of confidence after being selected as the preseason favorite in the 2026 American Swimming and Diving Coaches Poll, following their American Conference championship triumph. Head coach Seth Huston acknowledges the team’s recognition but emphasizes that their focus remains on continual improvement. “It’s always fun to have a target on your back,” Huston noted. He expressed excitement about the season and wished the best for all participating programs.
The Seminole Fall Classic marks an earlier start for the Owls than usual, providing an opportunity to compete against teams from the ACC and Big 12. “Starting our season at the Seminole Classic is a bit earlier than we typically start, but it’s a great test for our team,” Huston remarked. The event schedule is packed with numerous swim races and dives, spanning over two days. On Friday evening, the lineup includes races such as the 200 Medley Relay, the 200 Freestyle, and the 400 IM, along with a 1-meter dive for women. Saturday morning will feature events including the 100 Meter Relay and the 500 Free, along with a 3-meter dive for women.
