Rhyne Howard Shines Again: Third WNBA All-Star Selection in Four Seasons!

Rhyne Howard, the former star from Bradley Central, has been selected for her third WNBA All-Star Team in just her fourth season with the Atlanta Dream. This prestigious recognition underscores her rapid ascent as one of the league’s top young talents after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 draft.

Howard’s prior All-Star appearances were in 2022, when she also clinched the Rookie of the Year title, and again in 2023. She recently showcased her skills on the international stage by winning a bronze medal with Team USA in the 3-on-3 competition at the Paris Olympics last summer.

This season, Howard is having a remarkable performance with averages of 16.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. She is distinguished as the league leader in three-pointers made, with 49 successful attempts thus far. Additionally, Howard has achieved several career milestones this season, including being the fastest player in WNBA history to hit 300 career three-pointers (114 games) and becoming the youngest player to reach 2,000 career points—making her the fifth player in Dream history to do so.

Moreover, she had a standout game on June 13, scoring 36 points and setting a franchise and tied WNBA record with nine three-pointers.

Howard now joins fellow All-Star starter Allisha Gray, marking the seventh occasion that Atlanta will feature multiple representatives in an All-Star Game. The announcement of her selection was made by the 13 WNBA coaches, affirming her impact on the league.

Other notable selections include Kayla Thornton, Gabby Williams, Kiki Iriafen, and Sonia Citron, who will all make their All-Star debuts in Indianapolis later this month, showcasing a mix of veteran presence and fresh talent entering the spotlight.

In the lead-up to the All-Star festivities, the Atlanta Dream faced a narrow defeat to the Seattle Storm, where they lost 80-79 despite being without Howard. This close game highlighted the competitive nature of the season, with numerous lead changes and ties, demonstrating the resilience of the Dream even in challenging circumstances.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and promises to be a thrilling event featuring top talents from across the league. Fans can look forward to a full weekend of activities, including the WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest and the Kia WNBA Skills Challenge.

This year’s All-Star lineup highlights the incredible growth and talent within the league, providing an opportunity for fans to celebrate both established stars and rising newcomers.
