As the holiday season approaches, Rhode Islanders should be mindful of grocery and pharmacy hours for Christmas 2025. State law prohibits grocery stores from operating on Christmas Day, making planning essential for those in need of last-minute supplies.

On Christmas Eve, many grocery stores will adjust their hours. Aldi will close early at 4 p.m., while BJ’s Wholesale Club will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fresh Market will close around 6 p.m., and Stop & Shop will serve customers from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Target will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Trader Joe’s will close at 5 p.m. Walmart will welcome shoppers from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, while Whole Foods will close early but will not operate on Christmas Day.

In terms of pharmacies, CVS generally remains open on Christmas Day, albeit with reduced hours, while Walgreens locations with 24-hour services will also be available. Convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Quik Trip, and Wawa will operate as usual on Christmas Day, providing a vital resource for holiday essentials.

Retail stores are also expected to observe varying hours on Christmas Eve. Barnes & Noble will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Best Buy closing early at either 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. depending on the location. Other stores such as Big Lots and Dick’s Sporting Goods will offer services throughout the day, while Macy’s will typically close around 6 p.m.

Given these adjusted hours, it is advisable for shoppers to call ahead or check individual store websites to ensure they have the most accurate information before heading out. This holiday season, remember to plan ahead to make the most of available resources and enjoy a festive and convenient Christmas.
