The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) soccer team is resolutely aiming to break a seven-year title drought in this year’s Sukuna Bowl tournament, with their sights set on dethroning the Fiji Police Force. After suffering a heavy 6-1 defeat in last year’s final, the team is gearing up for a fierce comeback, having not held the soccer title since 2018.
Team captain Epeli Saukuru expressed confidence in their preparations despite the absence of key player Christopher Wasasala, who is currently representing Fiji in Papua New Guinea. “We have a lot of new players this year, and we have been losing for six to seven years now. Our goal is to end that drought and come out victorious,” Saukuru stated. The challenges ahead are significant, particularly given the strength of the Fiji Police Force, which boasts several national and experienced players.
Despite these obstacles, the RFMF team is focused and determined to showcase their skills and teamwork in the upcoming tournament. Key players to watch include Peniame Drova, Kolinio Sivoki, and goalkeeper Epeli Loganiceva. The RFMF is counting on their collective effort and resilience to secure victory in this competitive event.
Saukuru also conveyed his gratitude for the unwavering support from their families and the wider RFMF community, inviting all supporters to come out and cheer them on as they compete in Labasa for the coveted trophy. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 17-19 in Suva, concluding in Labasa on November 20-21.
With the rivalry between the RFMF and the Fiji Police adding an exciting dynamic to the Sukuna Bowl, anticipation is building within the community for this spirited contest. The tournament promises to not only highlight sporting excellence but to also celebrate camaraderie and unity among the various forces, creating a positive atmosphere for athletes and supporters alike.
