Rewa Ends 15-Year Drought with Dramatic IDC Final Win

STRATUM Construction Rewa has ended a 15-year title drought with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over RC Manubhai Ba in the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) final, held at 4R Stadium in Govind Park. The match, played in front of more than 13,000 enthusiastic fans, was marked by intense competition between the two footballing powerhouses.

Ba started the match with vigor, as their tall striker Etonia Dogelau posed a significant threat; however, he was unable to convert any chances into goals. Rewa’s goalkeeper, James Do’oro, put on an outstanding display, making key saves that kept the score at zero by halftime.

The second half presented both teams with an evenly matched challenge, but the stakes heightened when Rewa’s defender Kavaia Rawaqa was sent off after incurring a second yellow card. In a display of remarkable focus and resilience, Rewa continued to press on despite being a man down.

The breakthrough for Rewa came in the 76th minute when substitute Asivorosi Rabo was fouled inside the Ba penalty area. Patrick Joseph converted the ensuing penalty calmly, propelling Rewa into a decisive lead. Ba attempted to mount a comeback but their efforts were thwarted when they, too, saw a player sent off for receiving a second yellow card, leaving them with just ten men.

This victory signifies Rewa’s first IDC title since 2010, with their last major tournament win having taken place in the 2020 Battle of the Giants. Coach and player Tevita Waranivalu reflected on the victory, stating, “It was all in God’s timing. I took over the coaching responsibilities in July and the journey has not been easy, but we have managed to win the IDC. I thank everyone involved in our journey.”

Ba’s coach, Joshua Wilson, expressed pride in his team’s effort despite the loss, acknowledging the support of their fans: “I am super proud. A big thank you to all the fans who turned up in numbers and pushed the boys when we needed them the most.”

Rewa’s triumph also came with financial rewards, as they received $25,000 in prize money, supplemented by another $25,000 from sponsors Stratum Construction, which will be shared among the players. In addition, individual accolades were awarded to Rewa players, with Do’oro earning the golden glove, John Orobulu taking home the golden boot, and Gabrieli Matanisiga being named the best player of the tournament.

Such victories not only celebrate the success of the team but also bolster the passion for football in the region, reminding fans of the thrilling possibilities in local sports. Rewa’s determination and perseverance in achieving this long-awaited title are a testament to their growth and the exciting future that lies ahead for the team and Fijian football.
