“Revving Up for ‘Motorheads’: Michael Cimino’s High-Octane Journey”

Michael Cimino’s passion for cars and storytelling has landed him a significant role in “Motorheads,” an upcoming coming-of-age drama set for a May 20 premiere on Prime Video. Best known for his role in Hulu’s “Love, Victor,” Cimino was eager to participate in a project that aligned so closely with his personal interests.

“Since joining CAA, I expressed to them my desire to combine my love for cars with acting,” Cimino shared enthusiastically during a recent interview. When he discovered the script for “Motorheads,” he felt an immediate connection to the character Zac, who, alongside his twin sister Caitlyn played by Melissa Collazo, confronts family issues upon returning to the fictional town of Ironwood.

The show, described as a blend of “Grease,” “Fast & Furious,” and teen dramas like “Riverdale,” revolves around sibling dynamics and street racing culture. Zac becomes intrigued by his estranged father’s street racing legacy, leading to new friendships and rivalries in high school.

Cimino, who has a lifelong fascination with cars and motorsports, recalled fond memories of building racetracks with Hot Wheels alongside his father and participating in family drag racing discussions. This personal history deeply informs his portrayal of Zac. “I built a ’02 Miata that’s supercharged,” he noted, showcasing his commitment to the car culture.

During the audition process, Cimino impressed the producers with his genuine knowledge about cars. “When he showed us his car on a trailer, we realized he was deeply embedded in the world of ‘Motorheads,’” executive producer John A. Norris recalled.

The camaraderie among the cast offscreen mirrored their characters’ connections onscreen, which enhanced their performances. Cimino and Collazo, who share a similar cultural background, formed a quick bond, enriching their portrayal as twins.

While Zac navigates the ups and downs of racing and personal growth, Cimino’s enthusiasm for the project shines through. The actor recently obtained his stunt-driving certificate, revealing a desire to one day perform his own stunts, similar to iconic Hollywood figures like Tom Cruise.

“Motorheads” offers viewers a vibrant depiction of youth, friendship, and the exhilarating world of street racing, proving to be a labor of love for Cimino and his co-stars. The series stands as a testament to the power of following one’s passions, both on and off the screen. Cimino’s excitement and commitment to the project, paired with its engaging storyline, promises to resonate with car enthusiasts and fans of heartfelt drama alike.
