The official trailer for “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” has been released. Christopher Reeve, who famously portrayed Superman in four films during the 1970s and 1980s, suffered a severe horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down.
Despite his circumstances, Reeve became a source of inspiration as he advocated for spinal cord injury research, founding the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. He passed away in 2004 due to heart failure.
Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” includes contributions from all three of Reeve’s children and examines his lasting impact.
In the trailer, his son Matthew Reeve recalls, “We said goodbye… he gave this wave. That was the last time I saw him on his feet.” The trailer features a poignant voice-over from Reeve himself, where he expresses regret, stating, “I ruined my life and everybody else’s,” and reflects on the loss of physical activities with his son Will and his late wife Dana Reeve, who succumbed to lung cancer in 2006. He shares a memory of his daughter Alexandra, recalling her mother’s words that brought him comfort.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is scheduled to be shown in theaters across the United States on September 21 and September 25, with tickets available through Fathom Events.
