Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel has announced that Cecil Browne has returned to the position of Chair of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). This development coincides with notable adjustments within the commission, particularly the recent appointment of former CEO Joel Abraham, who officially took over the role on Christmas Eve.
In response to inquiries about Abraham’s predicament, Minister Immanuel clarified that Abraham is not being dismissed but is in the process of resigning to prioritize other economic concerns rather than the internal governance issues at the FCCC. This shift comes after Abraham expressed intentions to tackle the recent surge in electricity tariffs upon his appointment.
Immanuel reassured that any matters concerning the FCCC’s governance and procedures will now be overseen by his team at the Ministry of Commerce. The ongoing leadership transition illustrates a dedicated effort to bolster the FCCC’s efficiency and effectiveness, especially during these economically challenging times. Efforts are being made to gather comments from both Joel Abraham and Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau regarding these developments.
