In a response to the intense competition for dinner reservations, the New York state legislature recently voted to prohibit third-party booking websites like Appointment Trader, where users sold their restaurant reservations for excessive sums, sometimes as high as $200 – a practice typically seen in the world of concerts and sporting events.
Melissa Fleischut, President and CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association, hailed this legislation as a significant win for the restaurant industry, which aims to lessen the rivalry for reservations and shield restaurants from costly cancellations.
