Joel Montaniel, CEO of the reservation platform Sevenrooms, noted in a recent interview that some eateries are simply beyond reach for many. He revealed that restaurateurs, when asked for tips on securing a table, often admit they have no solutions to offer.

The competition for dinner reservations became so intense that last month, the New York state legislature enacted a ban on third-party booking sites like Appointment Trader, which allowed users to resell restaurant reservations for inflated prices, a practice reminiscent of concert ticket scalping.

Melissa Fleischut, President & CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association, hailed the legislation as a significant win for the hospitality sector, aiming to ease competition for reservations and shield restaurants from costly no-shows.
