Lynne Marie Stewart, beloved for her roles in “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” has sadly passed away at the age of 78. Her friend, actress Cassandra Peterson, announced the news on Instagram, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of one of the kindest and funniest individuals she knew.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Stewart’s journey in comedy began with the renowned sketch group “The Groundlings,” where she formed lasting friendships with notable figures, including Peterson and Paul Reubens. Stewart’s early television career showcased her versatility, featuring notable performances as various nurses on “M*A*S*H,” appearances on “Night Court,” and recurring roles on “Laverne & Shirley.”

In addition to her television success, she was recognized for her role as Miss Yvonne, the “Most Beautiful Woman in Puppetland,” which she originally portrayed in the 1981 Broadway version of “The Pee-wee Herman Show.” This character became iconic during her five seasons on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” from 1986 to 1990 and in the films “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” and “Big Top Pee-wee.”

Beyond “Pee-wee,” Stewart portrayed Bonnie, Charlie Kelly’s mother, on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and had numerous collaborations with Tracey Ullman in various comedy specials. Her extensive body of work also includes voice acting and a memorable stint on “Comedy Bang! Bang!”
