Remembering Frank Fritz: The Heart Behind the Picks

Frank Fritz, known for his role in the reality show “American Pickers,” has passed away at the age of 60. He died Monday night at a hospice in Davenport, Iowa. This was confirmed by his longtime friend Annette Oberlander, who was by his side along with Mike Wolfe, his co-star on the History Channel program.

Wolfe paid tribute to Fritz on Instagram, stating that Frank was the same off-camera as he was on-screen and had a unique ability to connect with people by being genuine.

During their time on “American Pickers,” Fritz and Wolfe traveled across rural America, searching for antiques and collectibles. They often explored dusty barns and cluttered garages, flashlight in hand, looking for items to resell in their antique shop in Iowa. Fritz had a particular fondness for antique toys and engaged in friendly negotiations with sellers to agree on prices.

The duo occasionally uncovered significant treasures, including a rundown van in Massachusetts that had been used by the band Aerosmith in their early touring days.

Oberlander revealed that Fritz suffered a stroke in 2022 and never fully recovered. Plans for a celebration of his life, which will likely include a motorcycle run, are expected to take place in the spring. She emphasized the impact Fritz had on the lives of those around him, noting that he valued his close friendships deeply.
