Ed Buckner, the beloved former Chief Meteorologist at THV11, has passed away at the age of 59 after a brave fight against cancer. His death marks a significant loss for the Little Rock community, where he was known for his dedication to weather reporting and community service.
Born on June 17, 1965, in Houston, Texas, Ed completed his high school education at St. Pius X High School in 1983 before pursuing his degree in meteorology at Mississippi State University. He joined the THV11 weather team in 1996 and quickly became a familiar face in Arkansas homes, providing critical weather updates for nearly 25 years.
Many Arkansans fondly remember Ed for his coverage of the January 21, 1999 tornado outbreak, during which he and his team tracked 56 tornadoes, including a devastating F3 tornado that hit Little Rock. His on-air work during this event is commemorated in an exhibit at the Museum of Discovery’s Tornado Alley Theater, showcasing his contributions to public safety and awareness during severe weather.
