Remembering Anita Bryant Dry: A Legacy of Faith and Song

Anita Bryant Dry, a former Miss Oklahoma, accomplished singer, and Christian author, passed away on December 16, 2024, at her home in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 84. Surrounded by loved ones, her death marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to music, faith, and service.

Born on March 25, 1940, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, Anita’s early life was rooted in family and her Christian upbringing. Her talent for music shone through from a young age, leading to her hosting a television show by 12, being crowned Miss Oklahoma at 18, and appearing on notable programs such as Arthur Godfrey’s and Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand.” Throughout her career, she produced several hit songs including “Till There Was You” and “Paper Roses.”

Anita was particularly known for her service to U.S. troops, performing annually with Bob Hope’s holiday tours for seven years, and was affectionately called the “den mother” by Hope for her caring nature. She had the honor of singing at significant national events, including the White House for President Lyndon B. Johnson and both the Republican and Democratic national conventions in 1968. Her performance at the Super Bowl in 1971 and her long-standing role as a spokesperson for Florida orange juice and Coca-Cola further solidified her presence in American culture.

In her later years, Anita founded Anita Bryant Ministries International, which inspired others to pursue a life of faith and purpose. As a devoted mother to four children and grandmother to seven grandchildren, she instilled the values of love and faith in her family through Bible songs and teachings.

Anita is survived by her four children, two stepdaughters, and seven grandchildren, alongside a wide circle of family, friends, and church community who will remember her legacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings.

Her life serves as a poignant reminder of the power of faith and the impact one individual can have on others through love and dedication. May Anita’s memory inspire others to embrace a life of service and compassion, reflecting the faith she cherished throughout her years.
