Jill and I, along with the entire Biden family, are profoundly saddened by the news of Bill Pascrell, Jr.’s passing. Bill served as a Congressman for New Jersey for a remarkable 27 years in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He was not just a colleague, but also a dear friend who I had the honor to work alongside for decades. Together, we tackled a range of issues including the Fire Grants and Safety Act, which supports first responders and their families, veterans’ healthcare, international trade, tax equity, labor rights, and numerous other matters.

Over our 30-year friendship, Bill stood out as a devoted patriot, a true gentleman, and an outstanding leader. Known as a beloved bridge-builder and champion for the working class, he tirelessly advocated for the voices and needs of everyday people in policymaking. His principled stand on issues was always rooted in his strong conscience and beliefs.

Bill’s journey was shaped by his humble beginnings as the grandson of Italian immigrants. Raised in Paterson, New Jersey by a caring mother and a dedicated father who worked on the railroad, he served in the Army and the Reserves before embarking on a career as a public high school teacher, state legislator, mayor, and then Congressman for nearly thirty years. His life was marked by significant achievements and dedicated service.

Beyond his impactful contributions, Bill will be greatly missed for his fighting spirit, kindness, and warmth.

On behalf of a grateful nation, we extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s cherished wife, Elsie Marie, as well as his sisters, sons, and grandchildren.

May God bless our dear friend and a remarkable American.
