Remembering a Legend: Rich Homie Quan’s Impact Celebrated in Emotional Memorial

Rich Homie Quan was honored at a memorial service held on September 17 in South Fulton, Georgia, close to his hometown of Atlanta. The service saw hundreds of family members, friends, and fellow hip-hop artists come together to celebrate the life of the 33-year-old rapper.

During the event at World Changers Church International, Quan’s father, Corey Lamar, delivered a heartfelt tribute. He shared how their relationship transformed his own life. “From the day I met Quan and I held him, my life changed,” he expressed. “I knew failure was not an option… He pushed me to be a dad, a role model, and to exemplify what a man should be, built upon integrity, morals, and values.”

He added that listening to Rich Homie Quan’s music now carries a different meaning for him, referencing a news segment that labeled his son an “Atlanta icon.” He expressed gratitude, saying, “Transition is inevitable for all of us, and I know that day is gonna come where I’ll see him again.”

Quan’s younger brother, Andre Munford, also shared emotional memories about their experiences together, emphasizing how Quan’s talent and hard work changed their lives. “My brother, he hurt me with this one,” Munford said, reflecting on their humble beginnings. “We started this from a karaoke machine… We went from apartments—with sometimes no hot water—to endless flights and personal chefs. I love you, man.”

Other siblings and notable peers, including Killer Mike and D.C. Young Fly, spoke at the service as well. In memory of Rich Homie Quan, Atlanta City Council Members Michael Julian Bond and Byron Amos announced that September 17 would be recognized as Rich Homie Quan Day in the city.

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Lamar, passed away on September 5. Following his death, fellow artists quickly shared tributes to honor his legacy. His family recently released his first posthumous single, “Song Cry.” He leaves behind five children.
