Sloclap, the developer behind the multiplayer arcade soccer game Rematch, has recently issued an update regarding the much-anticipated feature of crossplay, which will not be available at the game’s launch. The announcement comes shortly before the game’s full launch on June 19, following a successful beta that attracted 1.9 million participants across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
In a blog post, Sloclap acknowledged that they should have communicated the absence of crossplay sooner, expressing regret for the disappointment caused to fans. The studio, known for its previous titles Sifu and Absolver, explained the unforeseen technical complexities that hindered the inclusion of crossplay at launch, stressing that this is their first venture into crossplay.
“We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from day one,” the studio stated, assuring players that the development of crossplay is their highest priority and that they are committed to delivering it promptly. They have already made progress on a working version but need more time to refine and certify it.
In addition to crossplay, Sloclap addressed performance issues reported during the early access phase, which included lag and frame drops affecting gameplay quality. The studio is actively working to resolve these issues as well as others that have disrupted player interactions, ensuring a smoother gaming experience.
Looking ahead, Sloclap is focused on multiple updates that will introduce new features and improvements. These include core gameplay adjustments, competitive features like a tournament system and leaderboards for advanced players, social enhancements, and casual play options such as AI-controlled bots for training.
Despite the setbacks, Rematch has received positive feedback on Steam, with a ‘mostly positive’ user rating and a concurrent player count exceeding 35,000, which is expected to grow as players engage with the game over its launch weekend.
While challenges exist, the studio’s commitment to improving the gaming experience is promising, and the community can look forward to future updates that will enhance gameplay and connectivity among friends.
