North Ridgeville City Schools closed all buildings Tuesday, April 7, after a district-wide network outage left staff without internet, phones, printers and “other essential systems” needed to run classes, the district said in an early-morning Facebook post.

The district announced the closure at about 5:15 a.m., saying personnel were working with “local utilities partners” to restore network services. “We currently do not have access to the internet, phones, printers, or other essential systems needed to operate our buildings and conduct normal academic instruction,” the district wrote, adding that administrators were evaluating whether scheduled events, extracurricular activities and athletic practices would go forward. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the post concluded.

The outage on Tuesday morning was not limited to North Ridgeville. Later in the morning, Parma City School District and Copley-Fairlawn City Schools reported similar connectivity problems, indicating a broader interruption affecting multiple districts. Parma posted at 10:37 a.m. that “the district's internet and phone provider is experiencing connectivity issues,” and thanked families for their patience. Copley-Fairlawn posted a notice about connectivity difficulties at 10:18 a.m.

District officials have not publicly attributed the outages to any specific cause. North Ridgeville said it was coordinating with local utilities partners to restore services; Parma’s message pointed to problems with the district’s internet and phone provider. None of the districts reported damage to school buildings or injuries related to the outage.

The outages disrupted typical school operations that rely on networked systems for attendance, class scheduling, communications and printing. In North Ridgeville’s statement, administrators said they would provide updates on decisions about extracurriculars and athletics once they had more information, suggesting some activities could be postponed or canceled depending on restoration timelines.

Parents and guardians seeking information were directed to districts’ social media pages for updates. School closures and large-scale connectivity interruptions can complicate communication with families and the delivery of make-up instruction; district posts indicated officials were weighing next steps for academic scheduling and events.

As of Tuesday afternoon there were no further specifics from the districts about expected restoration times or the scope of the outage beyond the municipalities reporting issues. School officials said they would continue to release information as it became available.
