Reggae Boyz Close In on World Cup Berth After Dominant Victory

Jamaica is one step closer to qualifying for the World Cup for the second time, following a decisive 4-0 victory against Bermuda. The match, held on Tuesday, saw an own goal scored by Bermuda’s Dante Leverock in the 24th minute, setting the tone for Jamaica’s dominance. Bobby De Corva-Reid and Shamar Nicholson added to the scoreline with goals in the 26th and 35th minutes, respectively, giving Jamaica a comfortable 3-0 lead by halftime. Dujuan Richards sealed the victory with a goal in the 76th minute.

The “Reggae Boyz” now sit atop Group B with nine points, rebounding from a recent 2-0 defeat to Curacao. Under the management of former England coach Steve McLaren, Jamaica has a clear path to qualification: a victory over Curacao on November 18 would guarantee them a spot in the World Cup.

Bermuda, on the other hand, has been eliminated from contention after suffering their fourth consecutive loss. In another notable match, Curacao dropped from the top position in Group B after a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago. Kenji Gorre initially put Curacao ahead, but Tyrese Spicer equalized in the second half.

Elsewhere, in Group A, Panama remained in the qualification race with a late equalizer from Ismael Diaz in their 1-1 match against Suriname. Both teams now have six points, while Guatemala is not far behind with five points after defeating El Salvador 1-0.

With twelve teams from Central America and the Caribbean vying for three direct spots in the World Cup, the competition remains fierce. The United States, Canada, and Mexico are already guaranteed a place as co-hosts for the tournament. The excitement grows as teams continue to fight for their chance to compete on the world stage.
