Reds Reinstate Key Players as Season Heats Up

Noelvi Marte and Graham Ashcraft are making their anticipated comebacks for the Cincinnati Reds, boosting the team’s roster as they approach a pivotal point in the season.

On a busy morning at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the Reds confirmed the returns of Marte, who had been sidelined since suffering a left oblique strain, and Ashcraft, who was recovering from a right groin injury. In a series of roster moves corresponding to their return, the Reds optioned utility man Ryan Vilade and right-handed pitcher Sam Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville.

Marte, who last played on May 4 against the Washington Nationals, had been making significant progress during his time away from the field. Reds manager Terry Francona commended Marte’s hard work and resilience. “He had to be patient for a long while, but once he was able to take the shackles off, he kind of got after it and did a good job,” Francona remarked. He continued by expressing satisfaction with Marte’s solid performance in Triple-A before rejoining the team, highlighting his impressive .294 batting average along with three home runs and 17 RBIs accrued over 19 games prior to his injury.

With Marte back in the lineup, the Reds are hopeful that he can maintain his offensive momentum, as he expressed his eagerness to contribute again: “I feel really well… all I want to do is come back and help the team,” Marte said, adding that he is confident in his abilities moving forward.

Ashcraft’s return is equally significant, having previously recorded a 5-4 record and a 4.19 ERA in 29 games before his stint on the injured list. Initially scheduled to throw a live bullpen session in Philadelphia, Francona noted that Ashcraft was ready to return without needing that preliminary session.

The Reds’ strategic roster moves demonstrate their intent to bolster their performance as they prepare for their upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies, underlining a focus on sustaining health and maximizing player contributions. With both Marte and Ashcraft back in action, there is renewed optimism among the team and fans alike for upcoming games.
