Reds Reinforce Roster Ahead of Showdown with Cubs

The Cincinnati Reds are poised to bolster their lineup as they prepare for a weekend series against the first-place Chicago Cubs. The team has activated pitcher Hunter Greene from the injured list after he recovered from a right groin strain and he is set to take the mound on Friday night at Great American Ball Park.

In addition to Greene’s return, the Reds have signed Garrett Hampson to a one-year Major League contract. Hampson, who was recently released by the Arizona Diamondbacks, brings versatility to the roster as he has experience playing multiple positions, except catcher, throughout his eight-season career in the majors. Over 648 games, he carries a batting average of .239 with a .302 on-base percentage and a .358 slugging percentage.

To accommodate these roster changes, the Reds have transferred right-handed pitcher Carson Spiers to the 60-day injured list and optioned outfielder Rece Hinds to AAA-Louisville.

The return of Greene is particularly significant as he is considered a key player for the Reds moving forward, and the addition of Hampson could help strengthen the team’s depth as they aim for success against tough opponents like the Cubs. This adjustment reflects the Reds’ commitment to remaining competitive in the playoff race.
