Reddit is diving into the lucrative world of sports marketing. On Monday, the social media platform revealed new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMA sessions (ask me anything), exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and other special content shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and key events.
Reddit boasts over 1,000 active sports-related communities, with significant growth in interest. The platform reported a 26% increase in screen views across sports forums in the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
As Reddit prepares for its public offering, it has been exploring new revenue streams. Earlier this year, the company entered a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google. Following a successful IPO, Reddit reported first-quarter revenues that were nearly 50% higher than the previous year. On Monday, shares rose nearly 7% after the announcement of the new sports partnerships.
